Full Moon, Shasta Trinity National Forest, CA

I wasn’t planning to take any photos on the night when I got this lunar shot. I was simply parked as close to Mt Shasta as I could be-around 6,000 ft up. While walking my dog the full moon began to rise overly the stately conifers, as wispy clouds swirled by and refracted it’s pale light into a pale rainbow of colors. I encouraged my dog to hurray up and do is his business to no avail. Once he was safety back in my van, I grabed my gear and set up for the shot. Using a long lens (70-200mm) I composed the shot to allow the moon to take up as much of the frame as possible. Luckily it hadn’t risen too far yet and I could include the conifers, which ground the scene. The cloud cover had not thickened or abated so that magical, spooky quality of light was still possible to capture.
