Early Autumn In Nebraska Notch, VT
On a brisk early autumn morning I took off in search of the brightest foliage, and perfect scene / composition. After hours of driving, the harsh midday light seemed unlikely to present a photogenic scene. But when I arrived at a small brook in Nebraska Notch, despite the contrasty light I just had to try and capture the mesmerizing colors, textures and reflections. After taking 5 exposures to cover the tonal range to brightest highlight to darkest shadows, I used photoshop to “layer” them together. This technique is know as HDR for “high dynamic range”. Various software will combine the shots for you, but I prefer to do it manually in photoshop with layers, and hours of trial and error. The resulting image is far more realistic and captivating when a knowledgable human interprets the lighting than a computer program.
